PerWin Research Group @ the University of Guelph

Today I completed the listing page for all of the presentations our research group PerWin at the University of Guelph has made in the last year or so. PerWin stands for Pervasive Computing and Wireless Networking Research. The group is directed by my advisor, Dr. Mieso Denko and has several graduate students who are active research members in the group. We have given presentations on topics ranging from Wireless Mesh Networks protocols, Autonomous networks, Fair Scheduling, Load Balancing, RFID, Wireless Security and much more. We have also had special invited talks by several faculty members from various Universities around Ontario (Ryerson, UOIT).

Site Redesign

So I’ve finally gotten around to making my own site design rather than modifying one of the themes available on Wordpress.org. I’m pretty happy with what I have so far. It’s not completely finished yet but I’ve learned alot about the Wordpress system while I’ve worked on this theme. I’m planning on making it available for free for anyone who wants to use it after I clean it up a bit more. Look for it soon in the projects section of the site.

Update: Whats Going on These Days
It’s been a busy few weeks, and I haven’t had much time to blog anything lately. I’ve sat in on a few good thesis defenses, quit my old job at the warehouse and got a new job as a web developer for a local college website.
I’ve also received an extension for my wireless simulation project so that has been consuming the majority of my time these days. Assuming all goes well, the project will be done for August 11th, the results will be ready to submit to a conference by September 15th and eventually the paper will result in a Journal publication somewhere down the road.
I’ve made the decision to try the simulation in the ns-3 simulator rather than sticking with ns-2. I’ve found ns-3 more suited to wireless network simulation and it is much easier to understand so hopefully I’ll be able to work my MAC layer implementation into it. More details on the simulation to follow soon.

Customized Reconfigurable Interconnection Network Paper Accepted to COCOA ‘08

Yesterday I found out that a paper I helped out with got accepted to COCOA 2008 Conference in St. John’s Newfoundland. This is the first academic paper I have worked on, and also the first one that has been accepted to a conference so I am extremely excited.

Welcome to my Blog!
Well this is my first real attemtp at blogging. I finally got around to setting up the domain and some hosting so here I am. The purpose of this post will be to outline what exactly my blog is going to be about since it seems like as good a place as any to start. Well first of all, since I am currently a student and probably will be for a long time I decided on the name of the blog with this in mind. Basically that means your reading the thoughts of a 22 year old computer science student.
You can expect the majority of the content of this site to be tech based and nerdy as well as some scattered opinions and politics since I’ll likely get off topic at times. Additionally, ill post useful tutorials, neat facts I’ve found around the internet or read about in newspapers, books or anything else I can get a hold of. Theres not much else to say right now so I’ll leave it at that.
